Why Plastic Wrap / Cling Wrap is bad for the environment

Plastic wrap is made from polyethylene and polyvinylidene chloride and other toxic additives. Even though research on the long term effects of these chemicals and how they affect our health has been limited, the impact on the environment is clear.

Thin, flimsy, plastic wrap is difficult to recycle; it can clog machines and can be a lot more trouble to process then it is worth. So even when plastic wrap is recycled, new plastic wrap is still cheaper to make. When sent to landfill or incinerated both PVC and PVDC can release a highly toxic chemical called dioxin.

Cleaning Instructions

Wash your Australian Reusable Wax Wraps in cold water. You may wash your wrap with a mild soap. Use a very soft sponge or cloth to wash away any trces of food on the wrap.
Scourers are a no-no. No abrasive should be used on the Vegan wax wraps. You don’t want to scratch the wax off.
It’s better to not use your reusable wax wraps with excessively wet items.
Do not use the Vegan wax wraps on hot food. Do not microwave. Do not use in oven.

Can I store hot food in the Reusable Vegan Wax Food Wraps?

This is not one of the uses of Reusable Vegan Wax Food Wraps. It is not recommended to store any hot food in the vegan wax wraps. This is because the wax will melt from the heat onto the food. Check out our reusable ziplock bags instead, they are made from food grade silicone and are can deal with hot foods, cold foods, pretty much any type of food.

My Vegan Wax Wrap is not very sticky anymore, what should I do?

As these reusable food wraps are biodegradable, they will eventually become less sticky. The average life span of our Reusable Vegan Wax Food Wraps is reportedly 2 years of regular use. Eventually they will start to lose wax in parts of the wrap and it won’t have as much stickiness. It is still possible to extend the life of the Reusable Vegan Wax Food Wraps by heating up the wrap a tiny bit in the oven on very low heat for only a couple of minutes. This will melt the wax on Reusable Vegan Wax Food Wrap so it can then be coaxed around. Making sure the wrap isn’t too hot to touch scrunch the warm wrap into a ball to help spread the remaining wax around so the stickiness is more evenly dispersed. Rubber gloves can also be used. Some hot soapy water and a scrubbing brush should get the wax residue off your hand or gloves.

If this wax warming trick doesn’t do the job, you now have two options. You can either re-wax the food wrap or cut it up into pieces and dispose of it in your compost or green waste bin.
